Tire Service Available at Saint J Subaru
While brakes and oil changes get most of the attention when it comes to routine maintenance, the importance of your tires cannot be understated. To ignore the condition of your car's tires and to think of your tires as just getting you from point A to point B is not doing your tires justice.
Tires play a crucial roll in your vehicle's performance and safety. Your tires are a major factor in your vehicle's handling, vehicle load support, road shock absorption, and braking force. With everything that your tires do, it's essential to keep them in the best possible condition and watch out for any possible issues. Learn more about the importance of tires and tire service.

The Importance of Tire Service
When you come to Saint J Subaru, we offer all the tire services that you need to keep your tires in peak condition. Since the amount of time or miles driven before you need tire service varies, it's important to keep an eye on the condition of your tires and watch out for red flags. Some of the indicators that you need tire service include:

Tread Balding:
The tread of your tires are the grooves running around the circumference of the tire. As you drive, the tread slowly wears down. While this is completely normal, the balder your tires are the less traction you have. This loss of traction can be especially dangerous in snow and ice. Additionally, the balder your tires, the more likely a blowout may occur.
While a visual inspection may suffice, you can check the depth of your tire tread with a penny. This method of tire tread checking requires that you place the head of the penny head-first into several grooves across and around each tire. When you can see the very top of Lincoln's head, it means that your tires' tread is too shallow and needs replacing.
If part of Lincoln's head is still covered, that means that you have at least 2/32 of an inch left of tread depth remaining, which means that you don't need to find new tires immediately.
For those of you who don't want to go to the hassle of doing this process on their own or don't feel confident, our skilled service team can quickly assess your tire tread depth and give recommendations accordingly.
Changing Seasons:
With winter conditions come snow, ice, and cold temperatures. All-season and summer tires just won't cut it during most of the season, so it's worth looking into our selection of winter tires to provide you with the right amount of traction and safety for any winter challenge.
Uneven Wear:
With most of the weight in the front where the engine and transmission are located, the uneven weight distribution can lead to uneven wear. By rotating your tires periodically, you can ensure that all tires wear at the same rate.

Tire Cupping
Cupped tires have a noticeable scalloped treadwear pattern. When looking at the tread, it will almost look like the tread was scooped out in 3-4-inch sections. Some of the most common contributors to tire cupping include:
- Loose, worn, or bent suspension
- Poor-quality tires
- Unbalanced tires
- Misaligned wheels
Wheel Alignments
Wheel alignment is a crucial aspect of tire service. To ensure that your driving experience is smooth and that your tires wear evenly, a wheel alignment corrects your vehicle's suspension. At Saint J Subaru, we have the expertise and equipment to make sure that your wheel alignment is done right the first time.
If your vehicle's suspension is left uncorrected, you will not only have decreased fuel efficiency, but irreversible damage and strain can be done to your vehicle's mechanical parts. Some of the red flags that can indicate that you need a wheel alignment include:
The vehicle is pulling to the right or left:
If you need to correct the course of your vehicle from pulling you in either direction, there is a clear issue with your wheel alignment. This issue can also be seen when your steering wheel is off-center when driving straight.
Steering wheel vibration:
You can often tell that your tires are misaligned if you are experiencing excessive vibrations when holding the steering wheel. If you are feeling the vibrations in the steering wheel, it's likely that the front wheels are unaligned. Uncontrollable wobbling can be another indicator.
Uneven tire tread:
When there is uneven contact with the road, there is uneven tire wear. This wear creates scalloped wear patterns on your tires, which can dramatically shorten your tires' lifespan and its safety.
Our expert service technicians ensure that all three elements of a wheel alignment are addressed. These three elements include camber, caster, and toe. Each is a different perspective of your wheel in relation to your vehicle. By aligning your wheel with these elements in mind, your wheels will be properly aligned from every perspective for improved handling, performance, and safety.
When to Contact a Professional
Beyond inspecting your tire tread depth and wear patterns, there are even more red flags to keep an eye out for. Some of the indicators that you need to contact a professional include:
- Punctures
- Gashes or cuts
- Deep cracking
- Tires that are older than ten years of age
While some of these issues can be repaired, others may require you to find replacement tires. If you have any of these red flags, bring in your vehicle as soon as possible, or depending on the severity, you may need to have your car towed.
